In this activity I was asked to review some sites and concepts of transmedia Narratives to social issues and then submit a written post on a transmedia activism concept of my own design.

To what cause is the TransMedia Narrative bringing attention?

This transmedia narrative is based on the concept that the breast cancer outreach foundation brings, which is fighting breast cancer and finding a vaccine. I decided to choose this issue because it is something i’ve come to care about after creating a website for the organisation.

What is the mission, or desirable outcome? Is this a measurable goal?

The campaign’s main goal is to educate people on what breast cancer is and how it affects the patients, to get people concerned and get involved. The campaign will focus on the stories of patients and their families as they battle through the many obstacles they face. The transmedia narrative will educate people through emotional appeals.

Across how many platforms can this narrative effectively reach?

This transmedia narrative will be housed across 3 platforms, a website, blog and mobile game.

Website - The Website will contain documentaries that tell the experiences of past cancer patients, cancer survivors and families of the patients. Different true life stories will be documented and published on the site to educate viewers on the life experiences of the patients. An example can be seen in an epic love story between a man and woman with cancer, as they try to fight through the disease to be together forever. Stories like these are sure to get people concerned and moved to donate to the cause of the non-profit.

Blog - This blog will tell the story of a volunteer as they go on different mission trips with the non-profit to combat breast cancer in third world countries. The stories will show the experiences the volunteer has gone through, with the aim of getting viewers to donate or help.

Mobile game - An interactive mobile game where players use the main character(keeper of the body) to fight against cancer cells and tumors from forming. While players play, there will be a guide which will inform the main character where cancer cells are developing and how they can fight it and prevent it. The game will be used as a fun educative medium to teach people about the symptoms and treatment options. Once the game is done and cancer has been defeated, a banner will pop up that will read “Just like this we can end cancer, help to find a vaccine.” The game will have the look and feel of ratchet and clank.

How is your audience able to participate in the narrative?

The audience will participate through the game and also through the website. Through the site, there will be a page where viewers with accounts can tell their own stories and share their photos. The content will then be sorted to see what stories are appropriate to share.
